Mothers should cultivate their souls so that in turn they may cultivate the souls of their children. – unknown
Hello Friends! Welcome! Sign ups are now open for our first NPE Mother Culture Swap!
You may or may not be familiar with the term “Mother Culture” and a little uncertain of what this swap entails so let me take a moment to discuss. Our beloved Charlotte Mason summed it up well, “If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!” When a hardworking mother takes the time to refresh herself she is safeguarding her joy. Karen Andreola states, “To take part in Mother Culture is to feed herself with the Word of God, with ideas from books, nature, art, music, etc., taking care to keep growing spiritually and mentally.”
At NPE we believe in sisterhood, building one another up and spurring each other on. There are seasons in life that seem long, cold and gray. For many of us we are still covered in snow and the life outside lays dormant waiting on the warmth of spring. We thought February would be the perfect time to combine all these ideas and host an exchange JUST FOR MOTHERS. One that is nature themed but does not require you to collect from nature. You could send a nature journal, candle, tea or coffee, chocolate, a book that you loved and want to pass on. Be creative, the idea is to encourage your pal to take time to refresh so be sure that whatever you send carries that theme, REFRESHMENT.
Here is an example of what you could send. I received the sweetest package that included, a homemade flower press, chocolate, washi tape and a few other items.
Before mailing –
- Be sure to send a package that you would be excited to receive
- Be mindful of the costs of shipping.
- If for any reason you will be late mailing your package PLEASE contact your pal!

The fee for participation is $5 and a portion of the proceeds will be going to Folds of Honor. “Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. Our motto says it best. Honor Their Sacrifice. Educate Their Legacy.”
Please have your packages postmarked by March 20th (first day of spring yay!!) It’s always fun to see what everyone has sent so be sure to share it with us #npemotherculture
